1934 Ohio Art Co., Mickey Mouse Washing Machine in Original Box
Extraordinary example of the highly prized tin litho Mickey Mouse Washing Machine manufactured by the Ohio Art Company. This piece is in unused near mint condition and comes complete with its rare original box. My references indicated that a high grade example of this toy with original box is probably the most difficult to find of all the early Disney items produced by this company. The toy features beautifully designed wrap around illustrations of Mickey and Minnie on wash day. They start out happily scrubbing away, but end up with a rooster dirtying their wash again. Another panel shows Pluto feverishly attempting to scratch his hind leg. The name of the toy is in an oval above him. It's copyrighted "Walt Disney Ent." and "Ohio Art Co. Bryan, O., U.S.A.". The toy comes with it's original two piece manual crank agitator with wooden handle which fits on top of the basin. This is the non-wringer version. I'd recommend not placing the agitator over the top of the basin to avoid it from getting damaged, but it does fit easily. The box is unusual in that all four mail panels contain only graphics and no text. They show two repeated drawings; one of Mickey and Minnie doing their wash with the machine between them. A second shows them hanging the clothes out to dry. It's copyrighted "Walt Disney Enterprises". The endflaps include the name of the toy, catalog number, and manufacturer name and address.
